MELAKA, 16 September 2021: The head of holistic students’ development in Wawasan Club, Khairul Aizat bin Yusoff, 21 has just won first place in a Malay debate competition among other 25 students in the final round.
The competition called Pertandingan Pidato Rukun Negara Peringkat Kebangsaan Piala Pusingan TYT Melaka (Kategori IPT) 2021 is an annual competition meant to alleviate Bahasa Melayu as a commonly spoken language in Malaysia and as a tribute to the five principles of Malaysia.
Khairul Aizat is an active debater in which he has joined three consecutive competitions in 2021. He had won first place in a national competition Pertandingan Pidato Kenegaraan Peringkat Negeri Pulau Pinang and was selected as a representative to Pertandingan Pidato Antarabangsa Bahasa Melayu (PABM) Piala Perdana Menteri 2021. He managed to win third place and bounced back by getting another first place in a national competition to represent in the next international competition.
Joining a competition is an experience of ‘either you win or you learn’, as claimed by Khairul in his most recent Instagram post. He was referring to not winning first place in the international Malay debate and stated that he will be serving ‘more to come’ as he just won first place in the most recent national debate.
Along with the first-place award, he received RM1,500 as a reward and a source of encouragement to contribute more in debate competitions in the future. He has become the pride of IIUM as more Instagram posts are posted in regards to his success such as Instagram user wawasaniium that wishes him good luck for the next competition, Pertandingan Pidato Antarabangsa Bahasa Melayu (PABM) Piala Perdana Menteri 2021.
IIUM is known as the IPTA (Institut Pengajian Tinggi or Institution of Higher Learning) that reserves a profound spot in the debate arena. With the outstanding performance by Khairul Aizat, the campus community wishes him strength in his consistency to win more awards in the future especially in the next international competition, Pertandingan Pidato Antarabangsa Bahasa Melayu (PABM) Piala Perdana Menteri 2021. ***
