GOMBAK, 24 July 2021: To create greater awareness about mental health, a weekly podcast style programme called #WeHearYou has been used as the medium to reach out to IIUM students well-being as they have been psychologically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This collaborative podcast between IIUMfm, Counseling and Career Service Center (CCSC), Council of Principals (COP) and many other societies is aimed at reducing the mental burden among the students which will be divided by two segments to be aired every Saturday on 9 p.m.
The œHeart2Heart segment is not only limited for the speakers space for the sharing; it also opens for the students to share their story through voice or text channel which students can create anonymous identity according to their comfort. Interestingly, in the second segment, the œQ & A Session provides the audience the opportunity to ask the expert guest for advice or his or her opinion rather than the traditional concept of answering questions.
Hence, it allows students to seek help from professionals, with the hope that after hearing advice or opinions from a professional, they will seek proper professional help such as therapy and counselling in the future.
By listening to people’s stories and attempting to connect them with professionals and others who have had similar experiences, it is hoped that the students will be able to relieve their mental stress.
