COVID-19 Update: 2,643 new cases today

GOMBAK, 8 January 2021: Malaysia today recorded 2,643 new positive COVID-19 cases with 2,641 local while two imported cases reaching a total of 131,108 cases. 

About 25,140 active cases have been recorded including 82 intubated cases followed by 170 cases being treated in intensive care unit (ICU). 

Moreover, 2,708 new recovery cases registered today are higher than yesterday making total cumulative discharged cases at 105,431 (80.4%). There are 16 additional death cases involving all local citizens making total death tolls at 537 (0.41%) cases.

Selangor takes a lead with the highest daily cases at 1,086 (41.1%) followed by Sabah with 401 (15.2%) cases. The third highest state is Johor with 298 (11.3%) cases.

According to the Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, six new clusters have emerged, mostly in Selangor.

As usual, the public are reminded to follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) and stay away from 3Cs (Crowded Places, Confined Spaces, Close Conversation) and practice 3Ws (Wash, Wear, Warn) in order to control the chain of infection. ***
