PAGOH, 25 December 2020: A sharing session held recently on the topic “Get to know the T.E.A.M” has taken the audiences to get a better impression of the programmes offered by Kulliyyah of Languages and Management (KLM) through the lenses of four invited speakers.

T.EA.M stands for Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management (TPHM), English for International Communication (ENCOM), Arabic for International Communication (ARCOM), and Malay for International Communication (MLCOM). All these programmes are offered under KLM in campus here.

In this two-hour virtual session held on 18 December, the speakers attempted to enlighten the audience on the nature of courses and programmes offered by the kulliyyah and to change their negative perception.

Fourth year ENCOM student Noor Hasbullah Arif, said the subjects offered in this course have taught the students to be polite when engaging with others.

Speaking on gaining confidence through ENCOM programme, Noor Hasbullah emphasised that “confidence is built and not merely a gift and ENCOM has done a perfect job in doing that.”

Meanwhile, Aina Farahin, a fourth year TPHM student, highlighted that “every word in Tourism Planning and Hospitality Management has its scope and it is the highest demand, and tourism is in fact the third biggest sector in Malaysia.”

Fourth year MLCOM student, Akhmal Hakim, encouraged the audience to not feel sad due to public skeptics on MLCOM. He said, “People are going to question your decision to pursue Malay language but their perceptions will change if you can explain to them what you are studying. You are the ones who will preserve the Malay language, so be proud of that.”

Fourth year student from ARCOM, Syazaliyana Zainudin, noted that KLM has created many champions even being the only Kulliyyah in IIUM Pagoh.

She said, “Even though we are in Pagoh, we can still join various competitions and compete with other institutions. Some of us even travelled worldwide to conduct programmes.”

The audience were told that this can be proven when Syazaliyana herself participated in many Arabic debate competitions and also travelled to China and Indonesia through a programme organised by KLM.

The session, organised by the Office of English for International Communication, Kulliyyah of Languages and Management Student Society (KLMSS), was carried out through KLMSS Facebook live and had drawn many participants from Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS), IIUM.***
