GOMBAK, 20 December 2020: Malaysias 1,340 new COVID-19 infections meant that its cumulative number of cases is the third highest in South East Asia after Indonesia and Myanmar.
At a press conference today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country now has 93,309 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.
The world figures are led by the United States, which has recorded about 17.6 million cases.
Today, Malaysia saw four COVID-19 deaths, bringing the death toll to 437 in the country so far. Meanwhile, three cases are imported, while the rest are local transmissions.
The number of people with active COVID-19 infections in Malaysia is now 15,563. A total of 116 patients are in intensive care unit (ICU), with 57 requiring ventilator support.
However, 1,067 COVID-19 patients have been discharged, which means 77,309 people or 82.9% have recovered.
Selangor continued to record the highest increase of the day with 441 confirmed cases or 32.9% of todays total.***
