Virtual conference “WAPOR Asia Kuala Lumpur 2020” – 9 and 10 November

GOMBAK, 7 November 2020: œWAPOR Asia Kuala Lumpur 2020 will have a third rehearsal on Sunday (8 November) with committees from personal workstations to foresee possible technical issues before the virtual conference goes live on 9 and 10 November next week.

Focusing on the broad theme œPublic Opinion: Present Reflection and Beyond 2020, the conference provides opportunities for scholars, academics, media practitioners and professional communities to understand the issues and values of public opinion.

The main conference held on 10 November will be preceded by a workshop on 9 November. The workshop will feature prominent scholar, Prof. Edith de Leeuw of Utrecht University, who will be speaking on multimode and multi-method, while Prof. Dr. Sahari Nordin, an expert on statistics from IIUM, will be handling assessment on validity and reliability tests using factor analysis and Rasch Measurement.

Several prominent scholars and public opinion researchers like Yashwant Deshmukh from CVOTER, India, Dr. Mahar Mangahas from Social Weather Station, the Philippines, Dr. Robert Chung from Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute, and Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid from International Islamic University Malaysia will be sharing their insightful thoughts that relate to the conferences theme.

Organised by the World Association for Public Opinion Research or WAPOR Asia (Malaysia), the conference aims to assists the academics and professional communities in understanding the issues and values of public opinion and institutions, to explore the role of the traditional and new media in influencing public opinion, and to provide a platform for key professional communities and observers to present research papers on their recent studies on election in Asia which includes Indonesia, India, Malaysia and Pakistan. 

In addition, the conference also intends to discuss factors that inhibit the growth of public opinion in Asia, and to facilitate dialogues between academics and industry leaders.
