Learning “Beyond Journal Entries”

GOMBAK, 8 March 2020: A programme “Forum: Beyond Journal Entries” was held on Saturday (7 March) where two prominent figures from the industry were invited to share their knowledge and experience based on the career they have gone through.

Organised by IIUM Accounting Alumni Association and Bachelor of Accounting Council (BACC) 19/20, it was held at Lecture Theatre 1, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS), from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.

The guests were Yasmin Mohd Ramzi, a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) and a Chartered Accountant (C.A)(M), who also holds a Fellowship of CIMA (FCMA), and Dr. Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim, a former banker.

Both shared their experiences in their career especially in accounting and finance. Dr. Muhammad Syahmi talked about his experience working in Jeddah at the Islamic Development Bank after he received a scholarship from Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysia’s Central Bank) to do Islamic Finance.

“Accounting is not just about facing the computer all the time but it is beyond that,” shared Yasmin who was a SHELL scholar and had the experience working at SHELL company in the Netherlands.

Yasmin is currently the General Manager of TNB Global Business Solution while Dr. Muhammad Syahmi is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ISRA Consulting.

Dr. Muhammad Syahmi said that he hoped to see more IIUM graduates in the working field out there no matter what field they are in. He also called on the students to embrace good values and be proud in themselves.

Meanwhile, Yasmin advised the students to be successful in dunya and akhirah and contribute back to the community. She quoted successful people who believe in “the more we give, the more Allah will reward us.” ***
