Her Majesty the Queen proclaimed 2nd IIUM Constitutional Head

GOMBAK, 22 November 2019: Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, was officially proclaimed as the 2nd IIUM Constitutional Head today at the Proclamation Ceremony, held here at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), Gombak campus.

Adhering to Article 23 of the IIUM Constitution, the conferment of the title was given by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, following the demise of the late Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’azzam Shah earlier this year.

Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah of Pahang had been the constitutional head of IIUM for the last 35 years since IIUM’s opening.

In her emotional conferment speech, Her Majesty said that she was honoured with this title, as IIUM is known to produce great leaders all around the world.

She added, “The University must live to its proclamation of ‘Leading The Way’ to progress and live to the mission of rahmatan lil alamin. As mentioned in Surah Ali-Imran verse 79, we should be the rabbani generation that teach the scripture to others.”

She also reminisced how deeply touched she was during the opening of IIUM in 1992, being a unique university that manifests the epicentre of tawhidic paradigm.

She hoped to defend and protect the sacred philosophy, vision and mission of IIUM with this proclamation.

The event ended with a video of her biography, and also highlighted her involvement with Majlis Kraf Negara.

Her Majesty was crowned with the 2019 Craft Icon by the World Craft Council (WCC) in her efforts to preserve the craft heritage.

The robe used by Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong was of kain tenun diRaja Pahang, woven by the inmates of Penor Prison.***
