IIUM Sports Carnival 2019: Mahallah Zubair and Aminah are winners

GOMBAK, 22 November 2019: Mahallah Zubair and Aminah were announced as the winners of IIUM Sports Carnival 2019 (ISC’19) in a closing ceremony graced by the Rector of IIUM, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzukifli Abdul Razak, at Sayyidina Hamzah Sports Complex, on Wednesday (20 November) night.

The event began with contingents of each Mahallah made their way to the centre of the stadium wearing local animation uniforms such as Upin Ipin, Ola Bola, Boboiboy, Bola Kampung and Bawang Putih Bawang Merah. 

Asked about the parade’s theme, Assistant Programme Manager of ISC ‘19, Wan Ahmad Naufal Bin Wan Mohd Nazmi said, “Malaysia’s animation has been selected as the theme of march parade to uphold the great works of local film makers. Besides, holding onto the slogan “Togetherness Towards Sporting Excellence”, the local animation is a symbol representing the diversity but yet unified students of IIUM.”

The event was held to celebrate the winners’ achievements and to appreciate efforts of all athletes and committees in making ISC’19 a successful sports event in IIUM.

There were 15 sports contested in the event participated by 18 Mahallah, consisting of Gombak and Pagoh campus from 10 to 20 November.

The overall winners were announced in two categories namely Brothers and Sisters. Mahallah Zubair won the Brothers’ category with a total of 4 golds, 8 silvers and 3 bronzes. While, Mahallah Aminah was placed first in Sister’s total medal count with a total of 7 golds, 2 silvers and 5 bronzes.

The president of Mahallah Aminah, Nur Alia Najwa Binti Mohd Zaki, said, “As the representatives of Mahallah Aminah, we are very grateful and proud with our achievements in winning ISC three times in a row, starting from 2017 until 2019.

All athletes of Mahallah Aminah were very committed in their trainings and their hardships were paid off with this award. Hopefully, we can improve our performance to again secure the championship title for the next ISC.” ***
