Muslim Chaplaincy Programme for Hospital ‘Rehabilitasi Cheras’ patients

GOMBAK, 17 November 2019:  To spread the da’wah among society, the IIUM society club, Jami’yatul Khadamatil Quran (JKQ) club has decided to conduct a continuous programme called Muslim Chaplaincy Programme, which includes Islamic values, with people at Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras (HRC).

Muslim Chaplaincy Programme is currently sponsored by the hospital itself and by Persatuan Kiraat Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation.

According to the programme manager, Nabil Asyraf bin Mokti, this programme was organised because they wanted to give motivation through Al-Quran ayat with patients who require long time period to cure their illness. This is to make sure the patients could feed their inner part spiritually and do not give up with their life.

During the visit, the volunteers were assigned with at least one patient as their partner and from there, they began the ice breaking session with reciting several ayat from the Quran and they briefly explained the meaning of the ayat and lesson that could be learned from the ayat.

Each session they managed to have between 30 and 50 patients who came from the different age range and background, willing to attend the programme held twice a month, with at least 20 IIUM students who became volunteers for this sharing session.

Most of the patients were having a problem with their physical part of body such as stroke, spinal cord injury and parkinson or mental issues that might lead them to trauma.

Nabil stated that this might be the first programme conducted by university students that applies Quranic teaching in their ice breaking session. While reciting the Quranic ayat, they also can share their life stories that benefit others.

Nabil added, “You can reflect yourself once you listen to their experience, the struggle that they have been through will make you realise the problem that you are having right now is bearable compared to what they are facing right now.”

Today would be their last session with HRC patients for this tenure and the programme manager. Nabil hope that the next tenure will continue this activity in order to make sure their da’wah reaches others.***
