GOMBAK, 12 October 2019: A forum on “The Power of Social Media” yesterday took the audiences to see social media from the lenses of two invited panelists.

“Social media holds creative contents from various parts of the world,” said Ustaz Muhammad Dhiyauddin bin Abdul Kadir, commonly known as Ustaz Ad-Dien among Twitter media users.

Defining social media as a medium that allows people to communicate and share knowledge, Ustaz Ad-Dien further noted that the more a person indulges himself in the field, the more expert he will become, in which he related this to his personal growth in writing in his involvement with social media.

The event is part of ITSEF’19 conducted at Multipurpose Hall, Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT).

Meanwhile, Mr. Khairul Jamain from ML studios described social media as a means of expressing oneself depending on what he wants to show to the public. He shared the experience he had learned during his travel such as the differences in cultures and communities between Malaysia and other countries which he felt that his sharing could help inspire the youth.

Asked about the benefits of social media to the public, Ustaz Ad-Dien noted that it actually depends on the user’s circles in the social media which was agreed upon by Khairul Jamain.

He added that the social media is an easier form of information sharing especially among those who seek to learn and generate income.

On the circulation of fake news, the former remarked on the concept of tabayyun or verification of truth, which he said was also mentioned in verse 6 of Surah Al-Hujurat, “O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.

Ustaz Ad-Dien advised the audience to keep benefitting and inspire the public within their own capabilities while Mr. Khairul Jamain reminded that social media reflects oneself.

After a brief Question & Answer session, the audience was then gathered for a photography session with the panelists. ***
