KUALA LUMPUR, 8 May 2019 – A two-day AlSharq’s Forum series, 5th Annual Youth Conference, aimed to develop long term strategies to ensure political development, social justice, and economic security to the world, kicked off on Wednesday last week (1 May) in Malaysia’s capital city, officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Present at the event were several prominent figures like Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Education Minister, Dr. Maszlee Malek, as well as Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. Around 1,000 youth leaders and 40 speakers attended the youth conference.
There were speeches from keynote speakers such as Dr. Jasim Sultan, Tedx Speaker, Munir Akari, and Abdullah Al-Najjar from Al-Jazeera, raising a variety of topics which included education, media and technology. Parallel to the conference, numerous classes, workshops and sessions were conducted.
Participants and attendees enjoyed a concert led by Humood AlKhodr, the famous Kuwaiti singer, and Malaysian star, Datuk M. Nasir. The singers brought the house with astounding performances at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
AlSharq Youth Conference falls under AlSharq Forum, the brainchild of Wadah Khanfar, the former Director-General of Al-Jazeera. The forum, with its headquarters in Geneva, aimed to create a new world vision based on interfaith values and principles through spreading political, cultural and economic knowledge amongst today’s youth.
The initiative for Malaysia to host the Forum’s Annual Youth Conference was a good opportunity for young leaders to build networking and exchange ideas. ***
