GOMBAK, 15 April 2019 – A group of 30 IIUM students from all kuliyyah had the opportunity to gain first-hand experience when they visited Karangkraf Media Group, a known publishing and printing company, located in Shah Alam.
This site visit was conducted on Thursday last week (11 April) and was organised by Students’ Industry Training Club of IIUM (SITC).
Founded in 1978 by its Managing Director, Dato’ Dr. Hussamuddin Yaacob, the publishing company has its own daily newspaper, Sinar Harian. Besides that, it also produced a myriad of printed materials such as magazines, novels, educational books and involved in commercial printings.
The visit was organised to provide students the exposure to the operations of publishing and media industries in Malaysia. Students also had the chance to visit Karangkraf’s production sites, media room, innovation and creative studio.
A briefing session conducted by Madam Kesuma introduced the students to the history and accomplishments of the company since its founding. She also said that Karangkraf is the largest Malay-language publisher in Malaysia and students are welcomed to do internship with Karangkraf if they are keen.
Undeniably, the students gained a lot from the visit when they asked questions directly to the Karangkraf public relations executive. This visit provided a useful platform for students to understand the progress and development of the media industry in Malaysia.
This visit was accompanied by SITC staff, Nur Shahirah Nor Shahrudin. ***
