GOMBAK, 10 April 2019: Increasing advertisements and promotions not aligned with Maqasid Syariah here in Malaysia have now become a problem for Muslim parents.

“Muslim parents are afraid to expose some advertisements to their children in fear of the non-Islamic elements that might influence them,” Dr. Aida Mokhtar told a talk programme titled “Advertising and Promotion: An Islamic Perspective” today.

The event was organised by the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART), IIUM, to educate future producers and advertisers on the importance of Islamic values in advertising and promotion.

Featured in the talk was Prof. Dr. Ahasanul Haque from the Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENM), apart from Dr. Aida Mokhtar from the Department of Communication, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.

According to Dr. Ahasanul Haque, advertising must review several values such as the elements of honesty, respect for women, whether it is based on truth, and not show various human body parts to allure the audiences.

The programme held at Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) lecture theatre was also aimed to further educate students on the importance of Islamic advertising, marketing and promotion. ***
