“Zombies” for Charity

By Ariani Mohd Nor

GOMBAK, 27 February 2019: A Zombie Splash Charity Run will flag off on 13 April to promote charitable deeds within the society, with a unique twist of its name.

Organised by Social Entrepreneurship Club, the charity run will flag-off at 6.30 a.m in Convest Hill, IIUM. This is also expected to be one of the biggest events held under the Entrepreneurship Development Centre as they are expecting 700 to 1000 participants to be involved.

Contradicting to the popular belief of what “zombies” really mean, the zombies in this run do not refer to the spooky characters – rather, it refers to a Brazilian Muslim freedom warrior Zumbi dos Palmares.

Hence, inspired by Zumbi’s efforts to promote peace and harmony in the name of Islam, Social Entrepreneurship Club depicts the term Zombie Splash as demolishing the attitude of people who are not willing to help others in need.

All proceeds accumulated through this event will be channelled towards the needy people in Indonesia – where the club will organise a Global Outreach Programme.

Furthermore, this run also aims to promote healthy lifestyles within the community in collaboration with Pertubuhan Nadi Sihat, an NGO.

The members and committees of Social Entrepreneurship Club has therefore called for the IIUM and non-IIUM community to join this programme. The fees will be as follows: RM45 for IIUM Students, and RM50 for the public. Fees will include a runner’s t-shirt, finisher medal, as well as certificates and refreshments. For IIUM Students, star points will also be provided.

Registration and payment can be made through JomRun app on Google Play Store and Apple App Store or contact Sister Asnah (014-6874730) or Sister Hidayah (012-6365671). For updates, follow on Instagram (@iium_seclub).***
