GOMBAK, 21 April 2018:Â Communication students on Friday (20 April) had an “Intimate Sharing Session” with famous ex-Hot.fm DJs, Faizal Ismail and Fara Fauzana, where they were reminded of the significance of social media in this present age.
Both Faizal and Fara admitted that they did not have any competitor then to enter the broadcasting industry compared to the present generation these days as there are a lot more competitors now such as the ‘instafamous’ and the social influencers.
They said that these people now used the social media as the medium to show their talents. Moreover, “they also have many followers and viewers”.
The “Intimate Sharing Session” was organised by IIUM.fm and held from 11 a.m until 12 noon at IIUM.fm office. Around 45 students, including communication lecturers, attended the sharing session to enliven the event.
Students were specifically told that these days the social media is the biggest platform people used to gain information more than watching television or listening to radio.
“Obviously, communication students nowadays have a bigger competition, so you guys should think of a bigger goal,” said Fara Fauzana.
Faizal Ismail added, “Your social media is your station, so use your station to compete with others.”
“To make your own platform, you need to learn both. So, take up the challenge, try to balance between study and acquiring of skills.”
Faizal said that the broadcasting industry these days is like a small tunnel where a lot of people around Malaysia want to enter.
“If you want to make your own platform, you need guidance. Ask your lecturers or someone who have the knowledge,” Faizal added. ***
