IIUM students take a pledge against corruption

GOMBAK, 20 April 2018 – IIUM students became the first group of students of institutions of higher of learning in the country to take the oath declaration, the “Ikrar Bebas Rasuah” (IBR), during the Anti-Corruption Students Convention (KOMAWAR) held on Wednesday (18 April) in campus here.

The pledge taking ceremony was led by IIUM Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President, Amir Ridwan Idris.

Organised by the university’s “Sekretariat Pencegahan Rasuah (SPR), KOMAWAR was targeted to serve as a platform for university students to show their stance and commitment in rejecting any form of corruption.

The convention saw the inauguration of “Gerakan Mahasiswa Anti-Rasuah” (GEMA) where it was set to come up with numerous anti-corruption programmes for university students to gain exposure on the threats of corruption.

The event was attended by Chief Commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, and IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin.

In his message to the students, Tan Sri Dzukifli expressed his deepest desire to have the younger generation fully educated on the issues of corruption to be able to deliver wise judgement in combatting the acts of corruption in Malaysia.

He believed that GEMA would be a great medium among university students to spread awareness on such malpractices.

The event which took place at Main Auditorium was preceded with a forum titled “Cinta Itu Buta” featuring Tun Ruslan Tun Mat, the Deputy Commissioner of Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Mission, and Dr. Mohd Yazid Zul Kepli, a lecturer of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL).

This convention was also attended by students representing the SRCs and SPRs from other universities such as Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Kolej Universiti Islam Selangor (KUIS), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and several universities around Klang valley.***
