GOMBAK, 23 February 2018: The Teroka Nusantara Exhibition held at Kaed Gallery recently in Gombak campus here was described as one of the important events organised by the students of the 12th Heritage and Contemporary Studies under the Department of Applied Arts and Design (AAD).

After a successful launching of the event by the Dean Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), Prof. Ar. Dr. Abdul Razak Sapian on Wednesday (21 February), the exhibition was officially open to all IIUM students until Friday (23 February).

According to the Director of Teroka Nusantara, Hazrin Hazenor, this programme was held every year under the subject of Heritage and Contemporary Studies. However, this year’s event was different from the previous year.

“Compared to the previous year which only highlighted on the culture, our study focused more on the materials and techniques applied on the product,” said Hazrin Hazenor.

“Most of the arts and crafts that we showed here were brought from Indonesia but some of them were made by the students of Department of Applied Arts and Design (AAD).”

With a concept of train, this exhibition showed the uniqueness of the many cultures, arts and crafts found during the students’ 6-day visit in August 2017 to Central Java, Indonesia. Hence, the visitors felt like they were travelling while exploring the culture of Central Java in the train.

Visitors to the exhibition would get the train tickets first in order to feel the train ride. Then, they would explore the exhibition through the five stations like wood, leather, metal, stone and glass.

Other than products shown according to the materials, there were also infographic posters that displayed the history of the products.

Another exciting activity in the exhibition was the game where visitors had to find the password of the safety box in order to get the reward. A replica of Indonesian money valued 100000 rupiah was also given to the visitors.

In conjunction with the exhibition, there were entrepreneurship booths by first and second year students selling a lot of foods and souvenirs.

“I hope all visitors will enjoy this event and know more about the uniqueness of Central Java,” Hazrin Hazenor added. ***
