GOMBAK, 27 November 2017 – In efforts to engage with the public, the Imaratul Masjid Group of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque (I-Masjid) conducted a three-day leadership and personality workshop with 52 students from Asrama Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaam Taman Jelutong, Kulim, Kedah.

The event was conducted at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque, IIUM from 23 until 25 November.

The “Kursus Pimpinan Pelajar Asrama” or (KUPIMPIN) workshop has taught the students, who are also school prefects, ways and tips to inculcate high leadership skills and confidence to help manage the school.

The programme was aimed at building good relationship between the university and the public community members.

“This workshop served as a platform for the school students to communicate well and develop self-esteem in exercising their responsibilities at school,” said Programme Manager, Muhammad Syamil Bin Mansor.

He added that it is the responsibility of tertiary level students to serve the community through such programmes which can assist secondary school students to face the future.

The selection of IIUM as a collaborator with the school was due to the success of IIUM in producing many figures with high leadership skills, as stated by one of the school teachers, Jaafar Mokhtar.

“We chose IIUM because this university has produced many charismatic leaders and the achievements of IIUM in embracing various awards in a global rank,” Jaafar said.

The workshop is an annual event for Asrama Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Jelutong Kulim after receiving the ‘Anugerah Seri Asrama Terbilang’ (ASAT) award in 2013. ***
