Top 10 companies most Malaysians voted to work with

Asias very own online employment marketplace, Jobstreet.com, recently revealed the top 10 most preferred companies to work with as voted by Malaysians for the year 2017.

The list of top 10 companies sees different companies listed this time compared to 2016. Among 10 companies listed, six of them are Malaysian companies and it shows a good indication that our local companies are on par with other international companies in attracting talents.

According to Jobstreet.com, the survey aimed to find out what Malaysians think of great companies to join and the reasons for joining these companies.

The survey was conducted from March to April 2017 and a total of 10,241 candidates participated in the survey by Jobstreet.com. The participants’ age ranges from 18 to 50 and above. The highest recorded participants are from the age range of 26 to 33. More than 61% of the respondents held senior positions.

In this survey, there were five reasons given on why they choose the 10 companies to work with. Surprisingly, monetary is no longer the top priority for them, but it is still an important factor in considering an ideal workplace. Among the five reasons given are career development opportunities, benefits and incentives, salary, working environment, and company’s reputation.

The results also showed a different mindset for employees compared to in 2014 where the salary is the first priority for fresh graduates in considering their ideal workplace. This followed by support and training, benefit and incentives, quality of leadership, and work environment. However, the trend is changing nowadays.

Country Manager of Jobstreet.com Malaysia and Singapore, Chook Yuh Yng, was quoted from Jobstreet article as saying that “in this new economy it is no longer sufficient to attract talents through financial benefits or incentives”.

IIUMTodays very own Muhammad Faiz (21) said that for him, in finding an ideal company, as a fresh graduate, he will look for companies that could benefit him in the long run and among the top factors for him is the companys own reputation, its management and leadership, and work environment.

Here are the top 10 most preferred companies to work with as voted by Malaysians:-

1) Google

Topping the list as the champion is Google Malaysia. Google is a huge multinational technology company founded in U.S  and well known for the culture of work-life balance. Their creative work space and its style of working has helped it to top the chart this year compared to previous year in third place. Since Google’s opening of its branch in Malaysia, it has gained interest from many wanting to work with them.

Google Malaysia is known for its great office and many agreed that the office is among the coolest in Kuala Lumpur. The office portrays stunning colourful interior design and it hopes to help with the staffs creativity and boost their productivity.

2) Petronas

Petronas or Petroliam Nasional Berhad is Malaysias very own company. It is a Malaysian pride company that is fully owned by the Government of Malaysia. Petronas is entrusted with all the oil and gas resources in Malaysia and has been among the top companies employees preferred to work with. Fallen by one spot this year, Petronas has retained its position as number one for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016.

Muhammad Izzud Deen Redzuan, who has been working with Petronas Corporate Communication since early this year, after completing his study in IIUM, said that he enjoyed his work at Petronas, and Petronas too has given him the workplace environment that he had sought after and was given adequate training.

He said that Petronas not only focuses on profit and oil exploration, but has been passionate about helping the unfortunate community in terms of education, socioeconomic, and well-being of the workers.

3) Shell Malaysia

Shell Malaysia once again managed to secure its strong presence this year, listed as the top three of the most preferred companies to work with, voted by Malaysians. Shell is known for petrochemical company and was voted as the Most Attractive Energy Industry Employer in APAC for 2015. It is reported that Shell has 6,500 staff working with the organisation..

4) Sime Darby

Sime Darby Berhad is a multinational conglomerate, based in Malaysia. Sime Darby Berhad is involved in plantation, property, industrial development, motors and logistics. The company currently has 125,000 employees worldwide. Retaining the same position from last year, Sime Darby Berhad also received the 2014 Global Aon Hewitt Top Companies for Leaders award.

5) AirAsia

AirAsia with the motto “Now Everyone Can Fly” has positioned itself on the top five of the list. The largest airline in Malaysia and a leading low-cost airline service across ASEAN, it has moved up its position to top five compared to the previous year. AirAsia has been awarded by Skytrax as the Worlds Best Low-Cost Airline for 2009 to 2016.

6) Maybank

Malayan Banking Bhd is Malaysias largest bank and leading financial service provider. Maybank is ranked 95th in The Banker’s 2015 Top 1000 World Banks as of July 2015 and is ranked 362 in the Forbes Global 2000 Leading Companies as of June 2016.

Maybank currently has an international network of over 2,400 branches and offices in 20 countries worldwide and employing over 45,000 employees. The company has gained interest especially from new graduates.

Naimah Ahmad Sazaki, who did her internship at Maybank in the Department of Group President/CEO’s office, described her internship at Maybank as “a very valuable experience”. She said that the work place environment has changed her after having observed that the Maybank staff were active and efficient in doing work and in valuing the time..

She also said that the multiracial environment in the workplace doesnt hinder her from learning and gaining valuable experience and she enjoyed working with the organisation.

7) Nestle

Nestle is among the top brands in Malaysia with over 300 halal products in the market and among them are Milo, Nescafé, Maggi, and Kit Kat. Nestle first came to Malaysia in 1912 as the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company based in Penang and later in 1939 had expanded to Kuala Lumpur. The company now employs over 3,500 people.

8) Intel Malaysia

Intel Corporation or better known as Intel is an American multinational corporation founded by Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce and is headquartered in Silicon Valley. Intel Malaysia engages in the manufacture and sale of semiconductor chips, and development of integrated digital technology platforms for the computing and communication industries.

This year is the second year for Intel Malaysia to be nominated for this list and remained in the same position.

9) Tenaga Nasional Berhad

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is the largest electricity service company in Malaysia and a leading utility company in Southeast Asia, with RM99.03 billion worth of assets. The company employs approximately 34,900 staff to serve a customer base of over 8.3 million in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan. It was founded on 1 February 1990. TNB remains strong in Jobstreet.com Top 10 Companies list after being voted for two years in a row.

10) EcoWorld

Eco World Development Group Berhad (EcoWorld) is a Malaysian company focusing on property development. This is the first time EcoWorld is being nominated the top 10 of Jobstreet survey. In this place last year was Public Bank. ***
