Exhibition of Islamic civilisation gets attention of visitors

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 April 2017 “ An exhibition on Islamic invention in the Muslim World, aimed at familiarising audience with essence of Islamic civilisation and displaying factors contributing towards its development, has been successfully organised by IIUM’s History and Civilisation final year students last Saturday (15 April).

Around 100 tourists visited the one-day Legacy of Islamic Civilisation exhibition which was held in Masjid Negara (National Mosque).

The project, held for academic purpose, was to examine Muslim contributions to various fields of knowledge, at the same time to highlight the impact of Islamic civilisation.

œThis project was to create awareness regarding contributions of the Muslims during the Golden Age, said the project’s secretary, Muhammad Aminnuddin.

Following the objectives of Islamic Civilisation subject, its lecturer, Dr. Elmira Akhmetova, said, œIt was also to highlight the challenges and prospects of Islamic civilisation not only to the Muslims but also to the non-Muslims. This project would directly contribute to the realisation of the objectives of the course.

The project had an exhibition of 20 academic posters which cover major aspects of the Islamic legacy such as inventions of the Muslim scholars and the intellectual institutions. Among the best Muslim scholars displayed were Ibn Sina, the writer of famous medical book, œCanon of Medicine, and Ibn Firnas, the founder of aviation theory.

A couple from the United States who visited the exhibition was impressed with the information about the Muslim world. Some who brought their family to the National Mosque also spent time visiting the booth to learn about Islamic culture and civilisation.

A group of South Korean tourists also visited the Islamic Legacy booth and many of them were impressed with the information and video presentation. They wanted to know even information on how Muslims pray and had showed real interest in the exhibition.

National Laureate of Malaysia, A. Samad Said, also presented his views during the exhibition and supported the project. ***
