GOMBAK, 30 March 2017: The IIUM Edu Techno project team remained hopeful after securing fourth place in the ESPRIEX ASEAN Business Model Competition in Indonesia that the ‘Spaceball’ game app that they developed would have an impact on the education system.

Currently, the Spaceball game app that the team developed has helped primary school students to learn mathematics in a more interactive way. Through their efforts in promoting it in selected schools, the team was chosen to compete in ESPRIEX, which is the largest lean startup competition in ASEAN.

“In the upcoming years, we’ll build the ‘Edu Tech Care’ app that will gather education activists. We want to continue to support education in other areas than technopreneurship, such as in theatres, short movies or poetry,” Edu Techno project Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Muhamad Nor Syamil Mazlan said.

Muhamad Nor Syamil added that the team is working on the development of educational games for other subjects as well, as they aspire for global recognition.

“Without innovation and change in our education system, we will become irrelevant. That’s why we are here today – to give a solution, innovation and reformation in our education system.”

“Instead of merely ‘chalk and talk’, let’s embrace technology,” Muhamad Nor Syamil said.

The Edu Techno project team consists of five students from Kulliyyah of Economic and Management Sciences (KENMS), Muhamad Nor Syamil as the CEO, Mohamad Faris Aiman bin Moner, Ahmad Helmi bin Zainal Ariffin, Megat Abdul Rahman bin Megat Mohd Azlan, and Zainul Abidin bin Alewi.

The competition witnessed top 25 finalists, all from universities in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand compete to have their project presented at Harvard University.

The top five teams are from Gajah Mada University Indonesia (champion), Brawijaya University Indonesia (second and third place), International Islamic University Malaysia (fourth place) and Chulalongkorn University Thailand (fifth place).***
