CAMERON HIGHLANDS, 13 March 2017: A leadership camp was organised by the Community Outreach for Orang Asli Development (COMRADE) at SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah, Cameron Highlands for three days and two nights starting from 12 March.

The Leadership Camp involved a total of 150 students consisting of school prefects, librarians and dormitory representatives from the age of 14 to 18 years old. The students were led by 29 facilitators from the COMRADE Club.

The programme was aimed to cultivate their characters to be more than average so that they may assist the students at school very well.

The programme manager, Mustaqeem Sopee told IIUMToday, “We feel happy being invited by the school to organise a leadership camp for the students’ representatives at school. We are willing to help and provide them with training materials. My concern is for them to learn how to become good leaders rather than be a boss among their friends.”

The camp commenced with an attention grabber and an ice breaking session to harmonise the new situation that was going to be built. The facilitators were introduced to the participants and they were divided into twelve groups. Each group was conducted by two facilitators.

The participants were exposed to many activities including team building, leadership skills, time management and public speaking. At the end of the camp, the participants were able to polish their communication skills and have tenacious confidence at the front.

“This camp was very exciting because it helped in boosting our motivation to be the best among the best in school, and my promise after this camp is to be brave and lead the students confidently,” Adhwa Aina Sofea spoke to IIUMToday.

She continued saying, “I am glad to know many friends whom I never saw before and can mingle with Chinese, Indian and aborigines. This camp has taught us to work together in one team no matter what our race is.”

The President of COMRADE IIUM, Izdham Naim who also joined the camp commented, “It’s such a huge success for our club since this is the first leadership camp that did not involve only the aborigines. The students were committed in their participation and the facilitators have done a great task before the programme started, during and until the end”.***
