Raja Shamri: ‘Building character important for long-term success’

GOMBAK, 13 March 2017: The Kulliyyah of English Language and Management Student’s Society (KLMSS) has successfully organised a motivational talk by Dr. Raja Shamri, the founder of the 3rd Force.

“Our aim is to help others regardless of race, religion and culture within the capabilities that we have. We would contribute based on trust,” Raja Shamri said.

He added, “The basis was to spread love and the spirit of togetherness as well as serving physical and emotional support. We also help the nation without protocol.”

Raja Shamri, who is very active in contributing towards humanitarian activities, was born without a leg and his three fingers stick together. This has a major impact on his life because of the difficulty for him to move around.

His talk has inspired others on the need to sustain in tough times. According to him “you need to continue doing the right thing even if you don’t feel like doing it”. Building character is therefore important for long-term success.

“If you want to experience true success, you must develop a strong character. Being gifted is good, but it won’t make up for poor character.”

Humanitarian volunteering teaches the heart to be kind and to develop soft skill. The act has given him the opportunity to indirectly speak to people out there, deal with the disaster situation, and develop values of empathy on the circumstances.

He asked: “Can a spectacular resume give you a chance to be recruited for work? What really matters is we ourselves.  Can an astonishing resume give you endless happiness or to have an admirable personality?”

“Like the iceberg, at first people may evaluate you based on what happened on the surface. But they eventually take a gender underneath the surface and meet true character. Life is also not about satisfying others. No matter how good you do things there will always be somebody who is not satisfied with you,” Raja Shamri said.

The speaker has taught zikr that he applies every day, “wallaili iza asr asr, wa subhi iza tanaffas”, which means by the night as it closes in and by the dawn when it breathes, never stop to be good because none of our actions is futile when we remember Him and everything were countable.

The talk ended with a concluding remarks by Dr. Azrul who is an Arabic lecturer in KLM. He said, “The best man is someone who gives benefit to others. Encourage one another in goodness rather than the way of hospitalities.” ***
