Waqf Walkway: ‘Still a long way to go’

By Muhammad Faiz

GOMBAK, 11 February 2017: The financial budget plan for the Waqf Walkway Project has been revised from its total budget of RM653, 000 to around RM357, 000, according to a statement from Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

“After consideration, we decided to revise the budget so that we can reduce it further. We feel that with the original budget, it will take five tenures of SRC to finish it, Chairperson of SRC Welfare Secretariat, Nurafida Zaiman, told IIUMToday.

Since the time that the last Chairperson of SRC Welfare Secretariat met up with IIUMToday, the funds collected for the project has increased to around RM52, 000.

“The funding is definitely increasing but it is increasing slowly. That is why it is important for us to revise the original budget,” Nurafida Zaiman said.

œFor this semester, we have planned some campaigns that we can implement so that the rate of this project will go faster. In order for the project to start the construction process, we need to have at least half of the money from the total budget, she added.

Some of the campaigns include œOne person RM10 Campaign, crowdfunding, œJumuah 4 Waqf Walkway and a roadshow.

When asked about her hope for the IIUM community, she said she hoped that all of IIUM community would lend a hand and help to shorten and quicken the pace of the project. It could be done by donating and by promoting to other people who can donate. Together, we are ascending further.
