GOMBAK, 14 November 2016: The full spirit of members of IIUM uniform bodies has created a very outstanding performance in the Voluntary Armed Forces 2016 (VAF’16), Deputy Rector (Students Affairs), Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam said recently.

He said VAF’16 has given the IIUM community an opportunity to feel the sacrifices of warriors in serving and protecting the nation. At the same time, they have encouraged the audience, especially the students, to join voluntary armed forces as their contribution to the country are highly needed.

“I think there should be more students involved in the voluntary armed forces. Even though we are students, we still need to contribute to our country. At least we can learn how to defend our country from any threat,” said Mohd Zul Azhan bin Abu Bakar , a cadet officer from the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law.

The event took place at the Sayyidina Hamzah Stadium on 6 November night which drew a large number of audiences who came to show their support.

The audience was amazed by a silent drill by the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corps (KOR SUKSIS), war dance and short play by ROTU (Reserve Officer Training Unit) army and there was also a brass band performance from Victoria Institution.

The most eye-catching performance was a short play by ROTU Army which created an enthusiastic atmosphere on the night. It could be seen through the reaction of the audience that they were immersed in the play that was a tribute to the victims of the Lahad Datu tragedy.

“This is my first time attending VAF and I personally feel proud of our uniform bodies. I was amazed with their preparations and spirit because they are also students like me but they managed to commit in becoming the second line of the country’s defence,” said one of the audience, Siti Afiqah Amalina, a third-year student of IIUM. ***
