Around 42 International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) students participated in JASAs Outreach Programme called “Fresh Insight” with the indigenous people living in Kampung Ulu Batang Kali, Selangor, recently.
The programme was organised by the JASA (Jalinan Siswazah bersama Masyarakat Asli), one of the clubs under the supervision of the University Centre for Community Engagement (UCCE), International Islamic University. The President JASA Club 2016/2017 is Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad, an engineering student.
JASAs Outreach “Fresh Insight” programme, which was held over three days and two nights at Kampung Ulu Tamu, Batang Kali, Selangor, was intended to encourage students, especially Club members to involve themselves with community service activities that can strengthen relationship with indigenous people. In addition, this programme was to introduce the lifestyle of indigenous people to the new members of the JASA Club. Thats why this programme was called “Fresh Insight”.
Various activities were held during the three days and two nights, such as pilgrimages mahabbah, teaching the children of the original people, feasts and so on. During the pilgrimage, the contribution of various items such as rice, noodles, flour, clothes and a few other basic needs to have been served as contribution of the various parties.
JASA’s chairman expressed the hope that new members of the club can highlight the benefit of community services for the society especially students so that they can enhance their skills.
This programme has achieved its objectives such as strengthening relationship between club members of JASA with the indigenous people. With the implementation of this programme, students can foster the practice of moral values authentically and indirect forms of human capital manners.
Finally, we hope this small effort would receive the pleasure of Allah. God willing. In fact, we hope that this programme can help indigenous people to improve their living standards.***
