‘Wowintro’ way for job seekers to market themselves

GOMBAK, 22 February 2016: Instead of e-mailing to a number of future employers, job seekers nowadays can just put themselves in a platform where multiple different companies could see them.

Wowintro is an online video platform where job seekers can market themselves in 30 second videos. Recently they came to IIUM to give exposure about ‘vesume’ to IIUM students in collaboration with Counselling and Career Services Centre IIUM, in which the company gave a career talk in the first session, and the second session was all about application of theories as they let students express themselves in a 30-second video.

Its Business and Project Manager, Nadia Ismail gave an explanation on the interactivity of Wowintro, “We’re a platform where graduates and those looking for internships as well as opportunity seekers can create a 30-second video of themselves and companies looking for talents can actually watch their video along with their resume, and decide from there whether they want to call them in for interview.”

“So, instead of the traditional way of just looking at your resume and what’s on paper, you get to express yourself, show your unique side and impress your employer,” she added.

Senior Counsellor, Saiful Redza also described the sophistication of Wowintro system. “It’s like a teaser. Since going through traditional resume is time-consuming, employers will watch the job seeker’s video and if it’s impressive enough, they will click on other links related to that applicant.”

Among those who were present at the event was Mohd Khairul Abu Sufi, a lecturer from English Division in CELPAD, who commented that the event was ‘extremely good’.

“I think a lot of my students did not know about it and unaware of this thing so I thought it was a good exposure for them,” he said.

“I just wish that it received a bit more publicity so that more people would have known about it.”

He also stated that while most Malaysian students have the language skills, they are lacking in self-confidence compared with foreign students.  He therefore suggested that Malaysian students should mix around more with the international students to build their self-confidence.

“Don’t just confined yourself to people you are comfortable with. I’m a fellow in a mahallah and I see Malaysian students will be only with Malaysian students, and international students with international students. How long will this go on? It’s got to stop somewhere,” he said.

Wowintro is planning to come back to IIUM in the next few months to attend to different Kulliyyah.***
