Is a Pas split inevitable?

PAS Anwaristas faction, the so-called progressives, do not take rejection easily. Wiped almost clean from party posts at the partys recent muktamar, the members of the faction are far from happy. Mohamad Sabu, unseated from his position as party deputy president, likened the defeat to an œethnic cleansing. Khalid Samad, Pas Shah Alam member of parliament who lost his position in the central committee, turned around and delivered an ultimatum to the leadership, all from the ulama faction. He warned them to remain Pakatan-friendly. If they withdrew from Pakatan, there will be a splinter party. And, given that the defeat of the Anwaristas was at the hands of the delegates, Pas current crisis is difficult to fathom. Indeed, the Syura Council had passed a resolution to sever ties with DAP without debate, but that appears not to be the source of grievance. In fact, Khalid appears to agree with the need to follow through the threat.
