Songs for these troubled times

I WAS drawn to a letter (NST, May 25) titled œDishonest passengers are riding for free. The following day, this newspaper carried a letter citing the number of traffic offenders, totalling 1.59 million people, who had not settled their summonses. It seemed these people were waiting for the police to offer them discounts before paying up. I was troubled by these facts. The prospect that such scenarios will continue to haunt us, even with the advent of the high-income economy by 2020, is indeed shocking.
