GOMBAK, 12 May 2015: The Graduate Employability Management Scheme (GEMS) team will be in IIUM this Friday (15 May) to conduct talks on job opportunities to help graduate students look for employment. The team will be coming to IIUM to allow students for registration and to have a session with the participants.

This programme which will be held at Banquet Hall, Rectory Building, is open to final semester students as it is aimed to help them, especially those from the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (IRKHS), to get employment.

Dr. Normala Adnan, a Political Science lecturer, who is collaborating with IIUM Office of Industrial Link (OIL) to organise this programme, said the government came up with this idea to give opportunities for students who have difficulty to find jobs, by helping them either to go through an internship programme or an industrial attachment with various companies and government linked companies.

Basically, this programme is theory training for two months. Students may choose from the companies listed for attachment and then proceed to the next six months working under the same company that they choose to work under the agreement. Students will be given a chance to be taken in as permanent employees after the six months’ period but they should fulfil the companys requirement.

There are advantages that students would gain by joining this programme. They will receive monthly allowance, no interview will be conducted and no charges will be imposed. More than that they would gain working experience that is very valuable.

For those who are interested to join this programme, they must attend this session for registration as there is no limit on the number of participants.
