GOMBAK, 5 May 2015: The University Centre for Community Engagement (UCCE) had organised the Budi Awards 2015 at the university’s Main Auditorium recently with the objective of appreciating and recognising those who were actively involved in volunteerism and community service activities and to promote UCCE as a newly established body endorsed by the IIUM Majlis.
The theme was “Ketuanan Melayu” that allowed even international students to wear Malaysian traditional dress. It was also an effort to promote Malaysian culture.
UCCE is the new name for Centre for University Social Responbility (CENSERVE) since February 2015 and placed under the Office of The Rector to spread its wings to engage not only the students but also giving IIUM staff an opportunity to contribute to community service activities and engagement programmes.
The event was attended, among others, by Deputy Rector (Student Affairs), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam and UCCE Director, Dato Hamidon Abdul Hamid.
œOur mission is to spread and create the feeling of helping other people. It is not only in IIUM but also for our future, President of Abdul Hakim Abd Jalil said.
The UCCE Budi Awards 2015 was officially launched by the Deputy Rector (Student Affairs). The event was followed by presentation of UCCE corporate video and cultural performance from Caklempong Club and Nafas Tari Club.
œThere are no losers in these awards because for me, everyone is a winner and youre the winner yourself for what you did, Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam said.
There were three categories of winners: bronze, silver and gold certification. Bronze certifications were given to those who have been actively involved in volunteerism for a year, silver certifications to individuals who have been actively for two consecutive years and gold certifications those who have been actively for three consecutive years.
These certifications were given to all active members for 15 clubs under UCCE.
Gemilang Club received 9 bronze, 12 silver and 8 gold, Misi Club received 13 bronze, 9 silver and 7 gold. Perkim Club received 12 bronze, 5 silver and 7 gold, Akhi Club received 35 bronze, 20 silver and 6 gold. Caring Club received 42 bronze, 25 silver and 1 gold. Quranic Youth Club (QYC) received 49 bronze, 44 silver and 3 gold. Jamiyyatu Khadamatil Quran (JKQ) Club received 22 bronze and 21 silver. Sendi Club received 42 bronze, 21 silver and 12 gold. STEADFAST Club received 38 bronze, 28 silver and 18 gold. Comrade Club received 38 bronze, 9 silver and 2 gold. Titian Wahyu Club received 22 bronze and 15 silver. Jasa Club received 38 bronze, 21 silver and 6 gold. Inspire Club received 35 bronze, 39 silver and 31 gold.
Total awards were bronze 423, silver 278, and gold 90.
The ceremony was followed with the presentation of Heart of Gold award given to an individual student who has shown outstanding achievement in volunteerism and community service activities.
There were 20 winners from different respective clubs. They were Muhammad Hadi Ahmad Nadzri from Akhi Club, Sarah Nabilah Roosfa from Akhi Club, Mohamad Ikmal Hisham Ashari from Caring Club, Elok Vradizza Feni Adbul Wahdi from Comrade Club, Abdul Qahar Muzakkir Baharuddin from Gemilang Club, Muhammad Firdaus Rosli from Gemilang Club, Izzaidah Alias from Inspire Club, Muhammad Amzar Muhammad Saleh from Inspire Club, Raja Hazwan Raja Mohamad Joharudin from STEADFAST Club, Sofiyuddin Mat Saleh from Jasa Club, Nur Awatif Husna Ahmad from Jasa Club, Mohd Shah Redza Alohi from Misi Club, Syazwinnie Omar from Misi club, Ismat Arif Abu Hassan from Perkim Club, Muhammad Afiqi Muhd Noor from Perkim Club, Zainal Abid Zainal Adlishah from Quranic Youth Club (QYC), Siti Nur Adibah Zulkafli from Quranic Youth Club (QYC), Aina Nadiah Mashor from Sendi Club, Syamil Sofiah Hussin from STEADFAST Club and Muhammad Alif Zulhilmi Khalid from Titian Wahyu Club.
Best Community Service Programme award for Mahallah went to Mahallah Salahuddin and Asiah, for organising a Community Service and Cultural Exchange to Indonesia from 16 to 21 January 2014.
Economic and Management Science Society (ENMSS) received Best Community Service Programme award among the seven Kulliyyah in Gombak campus.
Best Community Engagement Project awards were divided into six categories. Best Mentoring Project award went to Children Mentoring Project: Al Fateh Mentoring Camp, organised by Akhi Club. Best Daawah Project went to Grand Harmony Visit, organised by Quranic Youth Club (QYC).
Best Motivational project award were nominated to Masih Ada Sayang (MAYS), organised by Steadfast Club. Best Outreach Project award went to S.H.A.R.E Desa Mongkos Bumi Kenyalang 2.0, organised by Misi Club. Best Orang Asli Project went to Ensino Belajar Itu Gempak, organised by Jasa Club.
The winner for Best International Project award was Humanitarian Mission For Malay Community in Sri Lanka (HIDEX), organised by Titian Wahyu Club.
The Budi Special Award 2015 went to U-Mission for organising Global Mission Journey of Khalifah to Cambodia 2014. U-mission’s project also gained recognition from the Ministry of Education.
“This is one of IIUM greatest achievements to ensure IIUM continue to flourish,” said Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam.
Meanwhile, Datuk Hamidon Abd. Hamid said: œWe gain happiness from everywhere but the most important thing is the way or how we gain happiness. Im glad were able to help other people and those in need, especially during the time of floods in Kelantan,Trengganu, Pahang and Perak.” ***
