After the curtains of uncivilised living was drawn upon mankind, skills regarding cooking became a tool for creating income, in favour of those who have the expertise in the area, giving them the opportunities to generate revenues based on what they do best.
Time has passed and as we can see, people nowadays would prefer to buy food instead of ingredients to make their own dishes. Some might say that preparing food is a tedious work and the time spent on making them would be better off spent by doing something that is more œproductive.
Cooking is a skill of necessity, let us further develop this idea.
A lot of people prefer to eat out these days but that does not mean that they are getting good food for what they pay. The food prepared by most cheapskate restaurants and shops use the lowest grade of items possible with unsanitary preparation to serve their customers. This could cause food poisoning to the customers, and if you’re looking for good food that has been prepared well and tastes delicious it would certainly cause you more and that would be uneconomical for your expenses.
Putting aside all the comments on the food services, cooking is an important skill simply because it is, and why it is, is because food is a part of life. One should have at least simple skills in cooking, for example the expertise to judge on whether an item is edible or not. We cannot eat everything that exists in this realm as some are poisonous and dangerous to our body. Being able to cook means that you have the knowledge on the ingredients that you will use in the making of your source of sustenance that develops your body.
It is not compulsory or a must that we need to learn complex skills that adhere to the professional cook world, nevertheless, we must at the least have the basics of cooking. The average adult in Malaysia should at least be able to cook rice, be it fried or just white rice, complemented by basic skills such as frying chicken or fish. The examples that I have given are the simplest. More advanced skill would be in making soups of all kinds. When dealing with these one must strike a balance and harmony between all the five basic tastes of sweet, sour, bitter, spicy and salty.
As students who are mostly engulfed in finance, among other problems, being able to cook is a great way of saving. Â This is to ensure that the food you prepare would be clean as you are the one who is preparing it, although the taste would definitely be up to your skills in cooking.***
