GOMBAK, 10 April 2015: Political Science Student Association (POSSA) had organised a trip to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Putrajaya recently. It was one of the biggest events conducted by POSSA members for the semester. Besides, there were a number of students from other departments. The organiser managed to persuade one of their lecturers from the department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman, to follow the trip.
The event started with a gathering of students at 7.30 a.m at the staircase of Rectory building. The organiser had to wait for a while to make sure all students and their respective lecturers were there. After half an hour of gathering, the journey began. It took them about one and a half hours to reach Putrajaya.
From the tentative programme given to the organiser, there were several departments within the MACC that students would visit but due to some problems students were restricted to enter these departments because of the event and meeting being conducted at that time. However, the staff of the MACC said there were still other departments that students could visit.
The event started with a trip to the MACCs museum where there were artefacts used by the department including some of the old cameras and old cases involving the task of the department. Â In addition, there were also formal uniforms and some old badges shown to the students.
The students were then given a talk on the role of MACC. Â The speaker was Madam Siti, an IIUMs alumni from the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law (AIKOL). The briefing was intended to enhance students knowledge and understanding of the functions and responsibilities of MACC as well as to enlighten the students on how the staffs conducted their job. The session lasted for about two hours.
One of the committee members for the trip, Megat Muhammad Syamil, said the event ran smoothly and he was happy to see a big number of students joining the trip. He hoped this kind of trip will attract more students, especially from Political Science.
The lunch was provided to all attendees and the event ended just before Friday prayer. The students and lecturers performed their Friday prayers at Masjid Putra before heading back to IIUM.***
