LEGISLATION is no small matter to be trifled with. Those legislators voted into the state assemblies and federal Parliament are there as holders of the peoples trust. It is a grave responsibility. They are duty bound to uphold the dignity of the legislative chamber. These are august houses and the ceremonies attached, while not sacred, are at the very least not to be mocked, most especially, when the act is completely misplaced. And what the Perak Pakatan assemblymen did to protest some issues that are most definitely to do with the central government and not that of the state speaks of a deficit in common sense and manners, unbecoming of the peoples representatives. Yes, politics does not require politicians to be highly educated, but neither does the monarchy require the monarch to be as intellectually accomplished as the sultan of Perak. Consequently, on his intellectual prowess alone His Highness is worthy of respect. Therefore, when these Pakatan elected representatives arrived at the opening ceremony of the Perak state legislative assembly dressed in black instead of the usual white ceremonial attire, protesting PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahims imprisonment among others, the sultan was not amused.
