GOMBAK, 12 March 2015: The rate that can be given for the United Nation’s (UN) performance is around 4/10 because of competitiveness in the world of the leadership nationally, according to former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Tan Sri Razali Ismail.
He explained the meaning of how the United Nations was slow in getting things done such as what was happening to Congo in 1986, in Kenya and many other issues that the solutions kept on being delayed which had caused a lot of death.
Tan Sri Razali said this during the talk organised by the IIUM Model UN Club on the topic “Diplomacy in Modern Global Politics” with the aim of finding a solution.
Having served the United Nations for seven years from 1990 to 1997, Tan Sri Razali had worked as a Malaysian diplomat for several years.
Among others who attended his talk were the Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin and the Deputy Rector, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam.
The speaker talked about his journey and experiences with the United Nations and also about finding solution for diplomacy in modern politics.
œIt cannot be denied that there are a lot of privileges that they receive being diplomats. I worked as an ambassador for some ten years in New York and I have learned a lot of things,” he said.
Tan Sri Razali said that the United Nations had tried to come up with new things that may or may not help from the aspect of a big organisation. “They usually wanted to play it safe and tried to delay on things that might cause negative effects,” he said.
He stressed on the diplomacy of human relationship and how it is related with illusion – the illusion and impression that you will not fail in fulfilling something.
œWhat we see after Iraq has been attacked and how they have tried to develop after the destruction, no one can answer this, added Tan Sri Razali.
