GOMBAK, Â 3 March 2015: Four IIUM researchers won the best research projects of Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) Phase 2011 selected by the Ministry of Education (MOE).
An engineering project entitled œMathematical Analysis” to estimate optimal shunt impedance for piezoelectric transducer to maximise vibration energy dissipation in non-deterministic sub-systems led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asan Gani Bin Abdul Muthalif won the first place and received a grand of RM 250,000 to continue with the project.
The project aimed to develop analytic/mathematical model to compute the average power generated by piezoelectric actuator when attached to structures with high model overlap.
œThe reason why this project was selected as one of the best FRGS is because the problem was identified and the missing link was solved said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asan.
The extended project focuses on finding an optimal shunt impedance to maximise power dissipation from a non-DS using piezoelectric material.
Another winner of the FRGS project is in the field of law entitled œ Establishing a legal framework for the practice of family mediation in Malaysia which is an extension of the previous project, which concluded that the efforts at reconciliation and conciliation by the marriage tribunal are not effective.
The project leader was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nora binti Abdul Hak from Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Laws, and received a grand budget of RM 150,000. It is expected to complete in January 2017.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nora said, œThe objective of the research is to study the legal framework and training module for family mediation and investigate its applicability in Malaysia.
The project addresses the problems faced by the marriage tribunal and seeks to evaluate the practicality of the usage of family mediation in Malaysia by investigating its practice in other jurisdictions such as Japan and UK.
The third and the fourth winner projects were under the Kuliyyah of Economics and Medicine respectively. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhaimi bin Mohd Sarif led the first and the latter was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramli bin Musa.
The researches were evaluated during a presentation on 1 October 2014 at the Seminar of FRGS 2011.***
