GOMBAK, 5 December 2014: It’s International Festival where you can have a taste of different foods and cultures prepared by the students themselves. Organised by students of the Kulliyyah of Languages and Management (KLM), the festival was held today at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) parking lot, IIUM.
It was indeed an event that gathered all IIUM students for a taste of international foods and cultures. The event started at 10.00 a.m following its official launching by the Dean of the Kulliyyah, Prof. Dr. Nuraihan Mat Daud.
Most of the stalls were ready to serve foods as early as 9.30 a.m. Some of the interesting foods were macaroons from France, onigiri from Japan, kimchi from South Korea, bruschetta from Italy, shortbread from Scotland and tang yuan from China.
Apart from that, there were some performances from bands and also martial arts. The performances were entertaining and managed to gather the crowd even more. The performances were to engage and entertain the students and visitors while they were having peculiar foods at the festival. One of the interesting performances was Japanese martial arts, the swordsmanship.
Besides foods and performances, there were fashion show, booth sales and inter-language corners. The fashion show was to expose the crowd to the different traditions and cultures.
œI feel a bit nervous because this is the first time for me to organise such an event, said Muhd Amirudin, a first year KLM student who is the programme manager for this event.
œAlthough the weather is hot, visitors keep coming to this event and enjoyed the foods here, he added.
This is the second time for such International Festival to have been organised by KLM students. This event is fully organised by the students as part of their class project and the project is considered part of their final assessment as well.***
