IIUM students showcase vocal prowess

GOMBAK, 18 November 2014: A singing competition entitled “So You Think You Can Sing?” was recently organised by IIUM Acoustic Band under the Centre for Islamic Culture (CITRA-IIUM). The grand finale was held at Experimental Hall, Rectory Building and started at 8.00 pm. There was free admission for the audiences.

The finale included 10 finalists from different Kulliyyahs. Surprisingly, five of the contestants were Communication students. The competition also used a live music band instead of a minus one for the finalists. The judges for the competition were Amirul Alhafiz bin Abdul Hamid, ex-vocalist for IIUM Acoustic Band, Fikri Abdul Aziz, a part-time musician for In-Team nasyeed band, and last but not least Fuad Zabidi, creative director for Pria Acoustic and he was also the  head of the judges for the event.

The event started with the recitation of Al-Fatihah and dua from the committee member of of IIUM Acoustic Band. Next, The grand finale started with the 10 finalists performing their best to get judges attention. There were several songs sung by the finalists which were Tanya Sama Itu Hud-Hud by M.Nasir, Padamu Ku Bersujud by Afgan, Aku yang berdosa by Shahir and many more.

After all finalists made their performance, judges announced that the winner of the competition was Mohd Muadzam bin Mohd Amin, a 3rd year student from Communication Department. He received RM200 with certificate where the runner-up was Muhammad Ajwad bin Amaluddin and he got RM150 with certificate and the third place was Muhd Khawari and he got RM100 with certificate. All three winners were Communication students.

œI did not expect that I will win this competition tonight. I entered this competition with no reason and hope. I dont have any future plan yet but I hope that I can learn more about music because I have no music background at all. Muadzam said.***
