KUANTAN, 1 November 2014: Peers Club of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has recently held a one-day seminar on cyber crime awareness at its campus here in Pahang.
This seminar was participated by 135 students from four institutions of higher learning; Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Islamic College of Sultan Ahmad Shah (KIPSAS) and IIUM.
Programme’s chair person, Nazali Mokhtar, said that the purpose of the seminar was to expose and create awareness among the students on cyber crime. Students were also taught about errors and misuses of the facilities normally committed by university students.
A representative from Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) delivered a speech to give the students and attendees a better understanding and knowledge of cyber crime and a description of the penalties they will face if convicted of illegal activities through the act of communication.
”This programme should be frequently held because of the many advantages for students on knowing or creating awareness on cyber crime for the betterment of society, especially in this modern world,” Nazli Mokhtar said.
“People should know that cyber crime is a serious problem and it should be taken firmly by the authorities,” he added.
