GOMBAK: A talk on ˜Islamisation and Integration of Human and Revealed Knowledge was smoothly conducted at the International Islamic University Malaysia today.

Held in conjunction with IRKHS Festival 2014, the talk was basically about the Islamisation and integration of body of knowledge, particularly in IIUM.

The talk focused more on the social science branches along the lines of Psychology, Sociology, Mass Communication, Political Science, History and Literature.

There were four speakers who delivered the speech on the topic. Among them were Dr. Md. Mahmudul Hasan from English and Literature Department, Dr. Harris Shah Abd Hamid from Department of Psychology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md Yousuf Ali from Department of Fundamental and Centre Disciplinary, and Dr. Mohd Shah Jani from Department of Quran and Sunnah.

The general understanding from the talk was on how to adopt Islamic principles in the body of knowledge and also in the mind of the learner.

Dr. Harris said to Islamise the knowledge, the Muslims need to be Islamised first. He believed that there were Muslims who promoted the un-Islamic idea and performed the wrong ijtihad due to lack of Islamic principles in oneself.  He also emphasised on the spirit in seeking knowledge.

œThe more I learn about psychology, the more I understand Islam, he added.

Another speaker, Dr. Md. Mahmudul stressed the significance of social sciences branches for the reason that these branches can change the perception of people’s mind.

He affirmed, “We need a few critical people who can change the world, not a thousand, after mentioning about the greatness of previous Muslim scholars.

An additional element was sincerity when he mentioned, œWe need sincerity and competence and also to be like our Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions.

The Dean of KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Zein was also present.

“I am glad to be with all of you here because the students are important assets to this kulliyyah. I hope this kulliyyah will organise more events like this, he said.

The event’s programme manager, Muhammad Alif Zulhilmi, a fourth year student in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, shared some of his thoughts by saying that the talk was beneficial for the students.

œIslamisation is a broad concept that promotes shariah compliance in learning the courses that they undergo, and Islamisation actually helped the students to identify the differences between the theories that have shariah compliance or not, he added.

IRKHS Festival 2014 was organised by the Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences Students Society. The event was held from 29 until 31 October within the Kulliyyah’s building.***
