GOMBAK: A programme called Mongkos Bumi Kenyalang or also known as “MOBY2.0” was recently held at Kampung Muara Mongkos, Serian, Sarawak. The programme involved 20 participants from Misi Club IIUM to celebrate Eidil Adha with the local villagers and to continue the ukhuwah between the students and the local community.

This second outreach was held with the objective to supply three water tanks to the villagers, not only for the Muslim community but to the non-Muslims as well. The reason for giving the water tank is because the place can reach up to two months without water supply when drought. It is a symbol of concerns for the community.

“Students from IIUM are the best because they can really bond themselves with the villagers” said Muhd. Salman Abdullah, head of musollah in the village.

The response and acceptance of the villagers towards outsiders was really good with a small celebration held to welcome students’ arrival. The villagers even cooked for the student and have fun activities together. “I am really glad that we can do some activities with the students and hopefully to do this again, ” Chairman of Kampung Muara Mongkos, Ameng anak Paul said in his speech.

The students who joined the programme can apply what they have learned in the campus and share it with the local community. It is part of da’wah training for the students. Besides that, the students can also gain experience and learn the way the villagers live.

From the blessing of the programme, Misi Club managed to donate one cattle for the Ibadah Qurban. Other NGOs that contributed to the success of the programme were Yayasan Amal, USK, Islamic Relief and Yayasan Al-baghdadi. The positive impact from the programme was that one woman near the village was converted to Islam.

“Even Kampung Muara Mongkos consists of different ethnic groups with different view and religion, we hope that they can live in peace and harmony, help one another and be exemplary to other community in Bumi Kenyalang” the programme manager, fourth year psychology student, Muhammad Taufieq Sitiris said during the interview.

Misi Club is one of the fourteen clubs under Centre of University Social Responsibility (CENSERVE), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) that actively conducts community services, community engagements and various programmes and events especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
