Exploring ​Islamic Advertising

GOMBAK, 26 September 2014:  Advertising is an important means of communication that could reach millions of audience to convey multiple messages, an international seminar was told today.

Multimedia and Communication Minister, Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek told the International Seminar on Islamic Advertising at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) that he believed this seminar will be able to shed some light on Islamic advertising which has become the concern of Malaysian public on application of Islamic values in the new age.

The Minister’s speech was delivered by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Deputy Director-General, Dr. Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus who represented the Minister at the seminar’s opening.

Dato’ Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek congratulated the university’s Department of Communication for the initiative in organising the seminar which he described as admirable and timely.

“I hope this seminar will explore all areas of expertise in advertising. With active participation of practitioners from the industry together with the academicians, participants would be able to examine and discuss issues in details, including in today’s new media, to come up with appropriate suggestions and recommendations to improve on the industry.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Dean of Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Chik, who represented the Dean of KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Zein, told the seminar: “It is important for the audience to get the right perspective of Islam as a religion, especially depicted in the media through advertising. We want to show how beautiful Islam really is.”

“With Islamisation as the primary foundation, this seminar is encouraging discourse by practitioners and academicians to look at the Islamic perspective in advertising, both in theoretical and practical terms,” he added.

The two-day International Seminar on Islamic Advertising was organised by the Department of Communication, KIRKHS, in collaboration with Centre for Islamisation (CENTRIS), and was held at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM.
