GOMBAK: Â The International Conference on Islamic Jurisprudence in the 21st Century has become a major event for those who wanted to learn the philosophy of legislation in Islam, according to Dean of Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS), Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Zaid.
In his speech at the launching of the 5th Conference, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim said this is the only conference that focused on the development of Maqasid al-Shari’ah and since its first conference in August 2006, this event has become a major landmark concerning the understanding of the philosophy of legislation in Islam.
œAs a result of this conference, a number of courses on Maqasid al-Shariah were developed at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in IIUM and elsewhere, he said.
“It goes without saying that the volumes of publications regarding this issue have increased tremendously,” he added.
The Dean also said that it should be remembered that this conference will be a part of a series of conferences organised by this university. He said, œThis will be a real contribution to scholarship, above all it generated new knowledge.”
Prof. Dr. Ibrahim also noted that as the Dean of KIRKHS, he owed the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh a great debt of gratitude as it consistently organised international conferences which were relevant to teaching and learning, as well as in research and consultancy.
œIt has created a great significance not only to academics and students but also to the public especially to those involved in Islamic finance, he pointed out.
The opening ceremony of the 5th International Conference on Islamic Jurisprudence in the 21st Century was recently held in Cultural Activity Centre (CAC), IIUM, and attended by various academicians and professionals worldwide. Also attended the conference was the university’s Deputy Rector (Internationalisation & Industry and Community Relations), Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout,
