CYBERJAYA, 23 September 2014: Students of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) who participated in the Halal Tech Power Challenge secured first place winning RM100,000 worth of contract to work on the Halal Tech Venture Builder project for a year and receiving RM25,000 from Media Prima for on-line marketing deal.
The winning team consisted of three students from the Kulliyyah of Economic and Management Sciences (KENMS): Tengku Ahmad Syamil bin Tengku Ibrahim, Ahmad Siraaj Muniir bin Alpan Masuri, and Aziz Zainuddin.
The event, a bootcamp to empower aspiring entrepreneurs to build halal tech ventures, was held at MaGIC, Cyberjaya, from 17 to 20 September 2014. It was organised by MaGIC in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance in conjunction with GREAT2014.
Tengku Ahmad Syamil was grateful that his team managed to win this Challenge.
He said, “We are very grateful to have won this competition. After having gone through four days of challenging activities, we got to finally enjoy our fruit of labor with this win. We hope to be able to stay active and participate in more competitions and programmes which can help shape our character, develop our mind and build critical thinking skills so that we can contribute better to the community in future.”
Twenty four teams which consist of 120 participants participated in this project and only nine teams were selected to pitch their work in the final round. The teams were filtered through daily challenges.
The Halal Tech Power Challenge is open to everyone regardless of age and nationality. Other than Malaysians, there were also participants from Canada, US and Japan.
Of all those who participated in the project, IIUM was the only institution that sent participants who are still studying, while other participants of this project are all working professionals.
