GOMBAK, 29 August 2014: In conjunction with the 57th Independence Day, the Director of Corporate Communication Division of IIUM, Dato’ Hamidon has today delivered a special Friday sermon at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque.
The 31Â August is the big annual event for Malaysians, its a Merdeka Day. Its a day where we, Malaysians, celebrate the freedom of the country and being grateful to Allah for granting us the Independence.
Independence means a lot to a certain country. It offers power to the government to settle on its own choice, venture towards the upliftment of its people, improvement of its assets and taking its place among other free countries of the world.
In his sermon, the audiences were asked to look back to the establishment of our nation and not to forget the sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers, especially political leaders and soldiers in gaining Independence.
They have done their best to protect this country from foreign ruling and establishing a contract between races as we enjoy a multi-racial country today.
“Malaysia shall remain independent and should not ever again be under the ruling of any colonial power”, he added more.
The audiences were also advised to observe the contemporary issues and development in Muslim world. For instance, Muslim nations are rich with natural resources yet the majority of the poor nations are the Muslims.
The political instability and disunity among society were also mentioned in his sermon and he considered it as a major problem in Muslim nations. This pitiful conditions of the current ummah made us wonder what the exact meaning of Independence is.
œAre we independent when we are subservient to others policies, to our own desires, to our own whims and fancies, to others than Allah? Nay! That is not freedom, he said further.
He urged everyone to pay more attention to the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. He said we ought to hold fast the rope of Allah and will receive guidance and have the capacity to move out of this despicable pit of shortcomings, frailty and powerlessness.
Prophet Muhammad once said, œI have left for you two things which if you hold fast to both you would never go astray “ i.e. the holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet SAW.
The rope of Allah implies that we should recognize Allah as the one and the main God who claimed this universe. He is the one, and only one, who has right to legislate and to figure out what could possibly be done, what is correct and what isn’t right. In short, to determine how we should live.
œAnd he who takes other than Islam as his deen it shall never be accepted from Him. (Quran 3:85)
Dato Hamidon sums it up, œThe time has passed for us to struggle and do our utmost to make jihad in the way of Allah, for the purpose of Allah, following the Messenger of Allah that we will all one day meet Allah and witness the smile of redha on the face of Allah.
œAnd whatever you spend in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged. (Quran 8:60)
May Allah shower upon all of us His blessings and barakah and make us benefit from the glorious Quran.
