Twins from Dentistry on finding beauty in bad times

By Nabila Ereesha

GOMBAK, 9 December 2022: Nur Araziemah Binti Amat and Nur Arafiqah Binti Amat, the twins from Kulliyyah of Dentistry called on IIUM students to always find beauty in every chaos as they graduated together at the 38th IIUM Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday (6 December) at IIUM Cultural Centre.

œBad things happen everyday. Some people experience more tragedy than others. But Allah is the best Planner. There is always hikmah in everything. So try to find the positive side of things in every bad thing.

The twins who received Bachelor of Dental Surgery recalled their four years of journey in IIUM, mentioned that it was filled with kindness and the culture was vastly different from the missionary school they attended in Sabah for eight years.

œAttending CFS IIUM in Gambang when we were 18, far from home and no relatives close by, we were touched by everyone’s kindness for the past seven years. Throughout our undergraduate studies, they openly accept our different dialects and willingly help us navigate the Semenanjung culture and lifestyle. The extra Universal General Studies (UNGS), Tilawah and Fardhu Ain classes help us learn new things that we missed when we were younger. We are very thankful for that.

In an interview with IIUMToday, Nur Araziemah shared her difficulties in studying dentistry, where no patients showed up for their appointments, resulting in a lack of clinical experience and a delay in graduating.

She then continued to share how she overcame the difficulties, œAlhamdulillah, we learnt to be redha and tawwakal with things that are not within our grasp. Our lecturers always remind us to look at our patients like they are our very own parents, remember that they have their own responsibilities and commitments too.

Nur Arafiqah told their future employment plans, stated that their parents would be overjoyed if they work in the same dental clinic, though they intended to be less dependent on each other and discover life on their own.

The twins also mentioned that there are some areas that one twin excels at while the other twin excels much more.

œWe help each other because we are human beings after all and no one is perfect so lets just embrace it.

The twins ended the interview with giving all the credits to their friends and classmates for their support and invaluable thoughts.***
