GOMBAK, 21 June 2022: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeti Azreen Bt Ahmad represented her team to receive the Global Prominence Award (Silver) for the Communication Research Seminar (CORENA) 2021’s achievement during the Takreem 2022 celebration last Friday (10 June).
The award came under the Students and Society category presented by the Executive Director of the Development Division, Dato’ Wan Muhammad Hilmi Wan Kamal at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) as organised by Abdul Hamid AbuSulayman Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS).
“As academics, our role is to generate knowledge through sound research work. Communication Research Seminar serves as a medium for us to share information with others that may solve a particular issue or problem,” shared Dr. Zeti Azreen on the motivation for the Department of Communication in organising the CORENA event.
“The only challenge for us was time. Organising a seminar whether online or offline requires a lot of coordination. For example, the information about the seminar needs to be released in searching for participants or the paper presenters and promotional materials should be ready a few months before the event. Besides, another challenge is to communicate with participants and update them about the event from time to time.” She told IIUMToday when asked regarding any challenges or difficulties faced by the department throughout the seminar.
On the achievement, she expressed her team’s aspirations to share knowledge and always aims to promote the research culture in the department. The seminar is a platform for academics to share new research findings with their fellow academics and all papers presented will be published in various journals.
The annual event conducted by the Department of Communication from 7 to 8 December last year was held in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universitas Lampung Mangkurat (ULM), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Prince of Songkla International College.
The department intends to collaborate again with several universities this year for the next project, though it is not yet to be finalised.***
