KUALA LUMPUR, 8 June 2022: Malaysia strongly condemns statements insulting the Prophet Muhammad SAW by two Indian politicians, BERNAMA reported.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) on Tuesday said the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia was summoned to the ministry and delivered a full denial of the statement.
“Malaysia welcomes the decision of India’s ruling party to suspend members of the party following their provocative statements which have sparked outrage among Muslims,” ‹‹the statement said.
Malaysia also called on India to work together to end Islamophobia and stop any acts of provocation for the sake of global peace and stability.
Malaysia is among the latest countries to jointly condemn the actions of two Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party officials who issued insulting comments that sparked the anger of many Muslim countries.
“Condemned and objected to comments deemed insulting to Prophet Muhammad SAW,” said the Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a statement.
Oman, Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Maldives, Bahrain, and Turkey were among the countries that also condemned the statement.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia strongly condemns the statement insulting Prophet Muhammad SAW by two Indian politicians and the protest has been notified to the Indian Ambassador in Jakarta.
The BJP has suspended two party leaders for allegedly issuing seditious comments.
Qatar has asked the Indian government to apologise.
The Iraqi Waqf Committee and Parliament in a statement said the anti-Islam mixed comments could have serious repercussions and if not curbed could lead to adverse consequences, as well as spark disputes and tensions.
Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan were among the first countries to formally protest against the provocation.
Meanwhile, the oldest Islamic University, Al-Azhar, stated that the insulting comments highlighted ignorance about Islam, the history and life of Prophet Muhammad SAW, and his messengers.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) described the BJP leader’s actions as part of Islamophobia.
In Turkey, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) spokesman Omer Celik described the statement as an insult to all Muslims.
