GOMBAK, 18 March 2022: The graduands who hailed from AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) believe that maintaining a good CGPA and having a goal is important to drive their motivations towards success.

These graduands who are on the Rector’s list received their Bachelor of Human Sciences (Communication) at the 9th session of IIUM 36th Convocation Ceremony on Wednesday (16 March).

The recipients are Zhang Anqi or better known as Ann, Muhammad Najmi Syahiran bin Mamat, Ahmad Syakir bin Ahmad Nizam, Nur Aifaa Khalidah binti Abdul Rahman.

Asked about how they maintain their CGPA, all of them shared the same thoughts in which it is to perform well in the beginning and to maintain it throughout their journey.

Najmi said that it is important to maintain the CGPA from the start by having a very good pointer which it could be done by making sure to perform well during the first year, first semester.

Syakir, on the other hand, said that he is not consistent with his CGPA. However, he said he would continue to make sure that he will get in a Dean’s list every semester.

Meanwhile, Ann and Aifaa believed that having a goal will encourage them to maintain it.

“My goal is to continue my studies for masters, and it requires me to reach certain CGPA, so it becomes like a motivation and this has encouraged me to do things well even if it’s just a subject with 0.5 credit hours,” Ann said.

“My lecturer advises me to aim and achieve the highest pointer in the first semester, so it will become easier to maintain it,” Aifaa said.

Asked about their tips in studying, Aifaa and Najmi believed teaching and sharing knowledge with others is also another way to maintain a good grade and gain a better understanding.

For Syakir, the tips to maintain the CGPA is to always have fun during the study and enjoy it.

“Study is an ongoing process so throughout your journey don’t put too much stress,” Syakir said.

They shared the challenges that they faced throughout their journey as IIUM students.

According to Muhammad Syakir, money has been one of the biggest challenges as a student. The same goes for Ann as she is an international student, henceforth, the cost to study overseas is high, and she had to constantly remind herself not to waste the money.

In the meantime, for Aifaa, the biggest challenge for her is to accept the fact that Communication is her area of study and try to accept reality even if it is not her first choice.

For Najmi, he admitted that as he is a perfectionist himself, he sometimes has to sleep a little bit later, and if there is a mistake in his work, he is willing to redo it.

“The biggest mistake is that when we didn’t manage our time well, we end up procrastinating. So, when you do your work at the last minute, you tend to push your limit,” Najmi said.

All of them feel proud and happy that all their efforts paid off when receiving the award.***
